Cultural Tour

Although it is considered to be a village dating back to the reign of King Ravana, written and archeological evidence has now confirmed that it dates back to four thousand years. During the Kandyan period, the village of Meemure was a popular destination of the king among other locations like Kande Nuwara and Mandaram Nuwara. The last king tried to escape to Meemure when under attack, but he failed since he was captured in the village of Bomure near Meemure. Popularly known for the Kasthirama teledrama and Suriya Arana movie (after which the location Suriya Arana is named), the village is primarily run with the blessings of the God Kanda Bandara according to the locals. The traditional farming activities of the village are still intact as evident from the lush green paddy fields you will encounter. The rich history coupled with the traditional operations carried on to date and the picturesque views make Meemure a great place for a cultural tour. Our cultural tours throughout the village are about three kilometers long, where visitors have the opportunity to see and learn about the village and its surroundings.
